Don't let this happen to you

There is a great need in today’s modern society to be prepared. There are way too many things that could possibly happen to you on a simple trip to the grocery store. Some walk around armed, be it a pistol, knife, pepper spray, or any type of bludgeoning tool. Some have specialized training, military or martial arts, in which they do not really need a weapon. In the perfect world nothing tragic would ever happen. Man wouldn't be out to steal from other men to put himself ahead. But sadly we do not live in the perfect world. There is a need, whether you will acknowledge it or not, to be prepared for whatever may come at you and threaten your well-being. You owe it to yourself and your loved ones to be ready.

Well first things first, what is your weapon? Are you against weapons? What would you be able to carry around in your normal life, would you be able to use it if the time arises? These are all questions you need to ask yourself. The easiest and most concealable weapon is yourself, or rather your fists. Although, to be proficient enough for self defense purposes, a good deal of training and stamina are needed. If this is the route you wish to take, then start training. Get a heavy bag, take a martial arts class, take a weapons defense class by all means. If you are too broke to afford these things, such as I am, improvise. Free information is all around you, it just takes a little searching to uncover quality info. I do not believe any type of knowledge should be paid for. A rolled up mattress held in place by ropes would make a great punching bag. Shadow boxing keeps speed and stamina up. Although the neighbors might think you've lost it, kicking the air is an excellent way to increase balance and strength. Run, exercise, jump, get your muscles used to being strained. Short bursts of physical activity are best, short intense bursts. All of this will come in handy, not just for self defense, but for a better life as well. Hand to hand skills are essential in any type of self defense scenario. If say, you can not be proficient with your fists, feet, knees or elbows due to an injury or something like that, you would due best to employ the help of a close quarter combat weapon. Pepper spray, knife, a club, even a small firearm, something easily concealable. That is fundamental for a cqc weapon. The element of surprise will overcome any would be assailant. Knowledge is the best weapon against everything in my opinion. A thought is quicker then an action, and if one can fuse those together, thought and action, they would be greatly advantaged as opposed to others. One needs to have a certain understanding of themselves, along with their surroundings. Perception is possibly your best self defense aid. Follow your gut, if something doesn’t feel right, more than likely it is not. Keep your instincts sharp and unhindered by drugs or alcohol. If you like to partake in them as hobby, limit yourself. A strong will determines your life path and your well being.

I am going to break this topic down into the three main categories, and thus leading to two more hubs. This one being the unarmed state, or armed with knowledge and tactic. The next being a knife carrier or close proximity weapons holder. And lastly carrying a firearm of some sort, is it right for you? For now I will conclude, that personally I do believe a knowledge of the fighting arts, and perceiving your environment, is the best defense one could ever possibly have. No one can take that away from you or use it against you. It is yours to carry around with yourself even if you are stripped down to nothing. Knowledge is power.

Stay safe.
